Some Route 66 royalty visited Joplin this morning. Monica Burrola, otherwise known as "Miss Rt. 66 Classic," tells News Talk KZRG her job is to make the historic highway as visible as possible.
"Part of my duties is to go out and meet new people, to travel the highway, attend events, and promote the highway to get more people interested in it. Each state has such wonderful, historic museums and icons along the road. There's a great opportunity to sit down with the authors (of books about Rt. 66) and see what they've put together."
Burrola made Joplin the final stop on a tour of the entire route, appearing at a mural in the downtown area for photo opportunities.
