In honor of the city's 141st birthday, Joplin celebrated with a birthday party at City Hall Monday morning, complete with cake and punch. Students from West Central Elementary were in attendance reading essays they wrote about why they love Joplin so much. Joplin Museum Director Brad Belk tells News Talk KZRG their work will even on display.
"Some of them got up and spoke, and the others will have their art work and words of wisdom on display in City Hall for a couple of weeks."
Second grader Shannon Barnstead tells News Talk KZRG why she loves Joplin.
"I like living in Joplin. I like living here because I have more room to plant my garden."
Joplin officially became part of Missouri on March 23, 1873.
