Beef, Pork Prices to Continue Climbing
Your grocery bill could be going up. The average price for choice beef in February was up more than four percent from January, to $5.58 a pound, and those prices are expected to keep rising according to University of Missouri ag economist Scott Brown. Brown says production is down and demand is high.
"We're still down in terms of beef cows. It's going to take time to grow that herd. I think we've gotten to the point where we're going to be critically low on beef supplies. On the other hand, we're seeing record demand.
Pork prices are only 8 cents off the record and could be driven higher due in part to a virus that doesn't threaten humans, but is killing off hogs.
