Davis Reacts to Firing Squad Legislation

Missouri could carry out executions with firing squads under legislation proposed in the House. Webb City State Representative Charlie Davis tells News Talk KZRG it's not likely to happen, but he can see the appeal:

"In my opinion, there are some people that deserve more than a firing squad. I remember one case where a guy was executed after he raped and murdered a pregnant girl. His family said his execution was cruel, well, what about the two lives he destroyed? But the bill's sponsor, Rick Bratton, is a very strong second amendment advocate. Maybe it's cheaper to execute someone via firing squad than lethal injection, I don't know, but I doubt this bill is going anywhere."

The state currently puts inmates to death with injections of lethal drugs, although existing law also permits use of lethal gas, the method by which 39 people were executed from 1938 to 1965.
