Davis Takes Issue with Nixon's Veto of Tax Cut Bill

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon vetoed a bill yesterday that would've reduced state income taxes. It would've gradually cut both individual and corporate taxes, but he said it would put state services in jeopardy. State Representative Charlie Davis says there were protections in the bill to prevent that.

"If we don't see at least $100 million more in general revenue, the next year we don't phase it in. So there would actually have been not one penny lost at all."

Davis says lawmakers will try to get the tax cut passed anyway during this September's Veto Session.

"We had 103 'yes' votes last time, but we also had six Republicans that didn't show up to vote when this first passed. If they're there for when this gets brought back up, it'll pass. We're going to work very hard to overturn this veto."
