Last week a devastating tornado hit Moore, OK, taking out two schools. That turned our attention back to the Joplin School District's plans on building storm shelters at their new school construction sites. Superintendent Dr. CJ Huff tells News Talk KZRG how they're coming along.
"We have a number of those that are underway. They're all EF-5 safe rooms. The East Middle School and Irving Elementary projects will be done in December, with those at Joplin High School and other projects coming after."
Unlike the FEMA storm shelters set up at places like the temporary Joplin High School at Northpark Mall, these shelters will be open to the public once finished.
