On the anniversary of the suspicious fire that destroyed a mosque in Joplin, mosque officials say they are making progress in plans to rebuild. The Islamic Society of Joplin Mosque was destroyed by fire last August 6th. The cause of the fire has not been determined. It'll be rebuilt within the city limits, but Board Member Faiqa Kamran tells News Talk KZRG it'll have to wait until fundraising efforts are done.
"The cost is becoming more than planned, because we are going through the floor plans and figuring out what we need to do. We want to make sure the building is secure, so we'll have a better security system, and concrete walls that can stand up to vandalism better."
The mosque was damaged by another fire on July 4th of last year. That blaze has been ruled an arson.
